The Art of AAMY

A few years ago, I got really into blind boxes. Like A LOT. I didn't bought them though, that shit is expensive and they didn't sell them here in my country at the time.

What got me into them was when I saw some pictures of Finding Unicorn's AAMY. It was love at first sight:

This one was the detonator, called "Secret Crush"
from the Melt With You series
You can see how beautiful these figures are. Delicate, soft and dreamy, they remind me of porcelain figurines but cuter.

The transparent (and sometimes) glittery parts look so pretty.

"Wish" on the right and
"A Cup of Full Mood" on the left from the Melt With You series
Since then my interest for blind boxes has died down but my love for this IP and the artist is still strong.

"Lullaby" and a "Bite of Jam"
"Bubble Dream" and "Leisure Time" from the Picnic with Butterfly series
"Drift Bottle" and "Wishing Star" from the Mind of Sea series
"Cream Decorator" and "Flour Girl" from the Witch’s Little Kitchen series

The Artist

AAMY is from Japan and used to be a graphic designer then became a full time illustrator in her late 20's in 2020.

The Art

One of the things that first caught my attention of her work is the way she draws eyes. They kind of remind me of old rubberhose cartoons, with the simplistic design on the inside as highlights and mostly one or two colors for the base. Maybe is more Tezuka's style:

But influenced by old shoujo art like Keiko Takemiya's:

Takemiya's colored art uses a soft palette and organic forms. She also adds flowers and ribbons as decoration for her pieces.

The whole style of Aamy is a bit more modern, like CLAMP's work. Just look at these, for example:

CLAMP's style is a more modern Year 24 Group. Their female characters wear lots of beautiful frilly and fluffy dresses; with ribbons, flowers and wings as part of their outfit.

Organic shapes and soft color palettes are used in their art

Aamy's work implements a lot of these elements and brings them together in her pieces in such a lovely way. Her line art is light and a bit heavy on some parts, the recognizable texture of watercolor, gouache and acrylic paint seems to me (I couldn't find info about this) like her choice of mediums. Her digital art goes from flat colors to rendering in a more traditional look.

Ammy's art is such a huge inspiration for me.

I found all of her pictures on her website, so please go check it out and enjoy it's lovely design with her lovely art:

Edit: Okay, it was an oversight on my part but clearly Aamy's inspiration is probably Naoko Takeuchi since she is a 90's kid like me. It's so obvious, I'm dumb.

Yes, this fits more

Stuff that makes me happy - May

Hullo! These are some little doodles I drew on my diary of the stuff that have brought me a lot of joy this month. Let's start:

• Flips and Chokis:  I'm a lover of chocolate and these are, hands down, my favorites snacks. Not so sweet and enough cholatey for my taste. I like to accompany them with a cup of coffee to help balance the sugar of the flavors. Flips are like cereal, they sell it in a lot of different presentations: a box, bag, the filling to spread, etcetera etcetera. When I was a kid, my parents used to let me choose a whole box of Flips for myself whenever we went to the supermarket and the moment we arrived home I would devour it all. Like really fast, it didn't last much haha. I swear to you I don't eat them like that anymore; I can moderate myself!
And Chokis are chocolate chips cookies with on side covered on chocolate. This is the only Chokis I like because the ones without the covered side taste so bland.

• Voltage Live: I have been a fan of Vocaloid for almost 20 years now and have watched a ton of concerts since then. But this, holy shit, is the best concert that they had ever made. It's so big and with so many stuff we haven't had before like fire, smoke, the screen actually trying to not look like a screen and act like is part of the stage. It's so well done it's difficult to notice. They even added a 2D animation of Miku over 3D Miku at some point! The black and white effect on OOPÁrts. The songs, the choreography, everything...  is so, so good. And I love it, lots and lots. I always get teary-eyed whenever I rewatch it.

• Tikki AKA Nena: My sister's dog that is more ours than hers, really. I love her a lot, I have her too spoiled. She is going to appear constantly on these lists.

• numb numb by TAK feat. Hatsune Miku and Kasane Teto: I haven't until now liked a song by this producer. I watched their stuff mostly for the videos instead of the music because they always have great character design and animation. But I knew when I saw the promo art for their newest piece that it was going to be a lot different than their usual style, so I was actually excited to give it a listen. And wow, I was not disappointed. It's really beautiful, the yearning and softness of the lyrics, the majestic animation that made it look like a film, the expressions of Teto and Miku at the start and the end of the video, "loving you"... So beautiful.

It got to 1 Million views recently. Totally deserved.

• Codex Entry's Pathologic 3 playthrough: I love the Patho games but they have a lot of small text on a black background and I haven't been able to watch them for that reason (I don't play games, I like watching them more). My eyes can't stand the contrast and the glare of the white on black and I know how painful it will be for my poor eyes. But when I gave it a try to see how she'll play it I got really excited when she read out loud all the dialogue options, saving me of doing that myself. Until now she is the only that have done that, the other's I tried watching only read the option they were going to choose. And I love reading them all, they say so much about the characters. And she has friends with her on the stream that voiced the other characters and it's so fun. So yeah, I'm enjoying them a lot. Lots of fun!

My 4th Sketchbook Tour

I have been doing this for a while to archive my sketchbooks but it takes time. Like a long time. I don't have tripod or mic, so the videos aren't that good. But with this one it was CapCut that fucked up the quality. They didn't let me export it to 1080p if I didn't become premium so it's 720p. I can't export my editable project like at all so I lost any way of having it in a better quality. Hopefully the next video will be in 1080p.

About these sketchbooks, I made them myself with old printed paper and cardboard that we have laying around. The reason for that it's mostly because is cheaper and less wasteful. And the other it's that I don't like pristine sketchbooks because for me that would be finished pieces and not sketches or doodles. My sketchbooks are for messing up a lot and not caring much if it looks pretty or not.

As for my next video, I want to repaint the cover of my diary since it has a AI image and I hate AI slop. It'll be a speedpaint, so that's going to be a challenge. My last speedpaint was really sloppy and all over the place so I'm kind of  dreading how this will be. Wish me luck!

New blog after 15 years

Hey, I'm Eli and I don't know anything about CSS or HTML but I worked all night on this blog to make it a little cute and that it won't hurt my terrible eyesight.

I did hurt my terrible eyesight doing that but I think it was worth it. I don't have as much to tinker now, just to add some text and start posting entries.
Something I drew with my fingertip
If I was better at this I would have added a bit more but I'm dead tired and I don't want to search CSS stuff for a long while. I didn't even wanted to edit the HTML much so I used gadgets and CSS mostly to not make it as difficult for me but jokes on me because it was difficult anyway Q.Q

If anyone knows of some simple guide or resources for blogger please share them with me. I don't want to spend another 3 hours on just making the images of the sidebar center align... Edit: I found some! This one in spanish:
Personalización de blogs and this in english danteizm.
